Shirley Crace Hughes is a fiction writer. She is employed at Indiana University in Bloomington. This is her first real-life adventure book.

Shirley and her husband Richard, and their golden shepherd Nikki, lived aboard their Sundowner Tug for four years.

By way of returning to Indiana from Midcoast Maine, they cruised part of the East Coast, the Hudson River and the New York Barge Canal. In Canada they cruised the Trent-Severn Waterway, Georgian Bay, and North Chanel. They also cruised Lakes Ontario, Huron and Michigan.

Richard and Shirley traveled extensively on the Illinois, Mississippi and Ohio Rivers. They cruised the entire Tennessee and Little Tennessee Rivers and the Cumberland. They transited the Tennessee-Tombigbee Waterway several times, as well as part of the Intracoastal Waterway along the Florida panhandle.
